Several problems?!
Hi,

I have several problems with Links 2:

1 I get a 500 error with NPH.build, -Verify and staggered. I have checked the forum for this and I have followed the guides in the subjects, but that didn't help. Here's what the problem is: In Administration the problem seems to be there, but in the meantime the pages are build. So... What do I do about it?
The mailingfunction doesn't work at all, so when I try to send a link to all linkowners, I don't know if they'll actually get it. Well... I tried it with my own link and it did nothing. I never got the message......

2 When I try to send an email when I validate a link the server couldn't find / execute sendmail. However, Sendmail is working perfectly fine with the exact same path when I try it with my forum, so.... and guess what?! When I put a '/' before the path it does indeed work. However.... Add.cgi doesn't work anymore. People can access the page, they can fill out the form and when they hit submit... all stops... internal server error.

3 links.css is causing big trouble with my layout. I have changed the settings at certain points, but please keep on reading before you make any comments regarding setting everything back to it's original state.
The background for the tables don't load and when I try to add a background to the ratingscript it's not shown either. However, when I remove the link of the style sheet in the Headpart of the document everything works fine. SO on my site people can't see how it should work, but when they place the script on their own site, they can see how it works. Any suggestions on how to get everything working properly with the links.css?! Otherwise I'll just make my own one... hoping that will work.
I've tried to include the original file (with no changes), but the problem stays the same.... somewhere in links.css is something wrong or my server can't work with it.

I hope you can help me with it.

Regards,

Angel's Charmed Slayer.

Re point 1) Are you on a raq?

Re point 2) Likely that you have misconfigured the email options in links.cfg or the email address you put in there doesn't exist on the server

Re point 3) If you have the syntax correct in the css file then it will work.

eg.

body {
background: #000000;
}

I am having similar problems, with verifying links. I have seen the other posts about the RAQ issue and have mad the changes to the script, but nph_verify.cgi does not have $nph++; anywhere to comment out.

So Now what?

Also nph_build.cgi still does not build all the pages. I am missing the "cool" and "new" and "ratings"

I already commented out $nph++;

any help would be appreicated

I was having the same problem with the email I posted a question a few days ago about this, even though people were getting an error with add cgi the listing was still being recorded. I came to the conclusion the error was being caused by the fact the email notification to you of the new link was not being sent and causing the error. I switched over to smtp and the error disapeared and I got the notification. I am having another problem now ( notifications are not being sent to link owners and the email text is not showing up in the box its normally in.) but I am not sure what is causing this problem. So if you are getting an error but the add info is being recorded it is probably because the notification to you is not being sent. The reason I switched to smtp is my server needs two switches to use sendmail (-t -i) and the links email program will only work with one sendmail switch it won't accept the second one.

Re: Several problems?! In reply to
Why won't links 2 accept a -t -i tag at the end of the sendmail path? I have had it working with them before.

What are your reasons for thinking only one switch is accepted? because.....

I need to have the -t -i switches on my server or I get an error so as soon as I added them in links.cfg, it worked.

Andy, they are switches not "tags"

When I added the two switches I got an error that send mail was miss configured, if I added only one I got no error.

Hi all,

Here are a few of the answers....

1: I am indeed on a RAQ server (If I'm correct it's a RAQ 4 server). I have allready outcommented the lines that were suggested to be outcommented, but that didn't help one bit.
So still the same problem....

2: Here's what's in my links.cfg File:

I know for certain the emailaddress I have put in there is correct. I can send emails to that address from my home emailaddress without any problems and I get them too and it works the other way around too! So the address is in there. Also the sendmailpath is correct, 'cause it does work with the forum (which also uses sendmail!). Here's the errormessage I get when I try to validate a link and send a link to the linkowner:

My question... how is it possible it can't be found while I know it is there in the exact path?! When I put a '/' before usr it will work but the add.cgi will not work anymore... That's the second reason why I'm certain the path is correct......

3: The problem with links.css was actually my problem. I hadn't noticed correctly that there as also a mentioning of tablecells. Once I had cleared that from the css, everything worked perfectly fine.

Well, I hope you can help me with problems 1 and 2 based on what I just gave here above.

You have the path to sendmail incorrect.

It should be

$db_mail_path = '/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i';

Hi Paul, Thanks for the tip, but as I've said now two times before..... When I do put the '/' before usr the add.cgi on the site will not work anymore and people will get the 500 error message... adn I don't get the ilsting... so THAT'S NOT A SOLUTION FOR ME!!!
Sorry if this sounds really irritated.... not meant to offend you with it.

You can choose to ignore my advice if you wish although I would recommend you don't seeing as I co-administer a RAQ4 myself Wink

That is the CORRECT path for SENDMAIL.

If add.cgi gives an error then the chances are you are using an invalid/non-existant email address in links.cfg

I certainly wouldn't doubt you, but since I allready tried to that once with disastrous results (links 2 not working at all because the address of the administrator was wrong.... missing the '/') I don't think that'll will help either.

In the meantime I am trying to follow your advice, however, up until now with no results. Frown

But, I just keep on going. I WANT IT TO WORK!!!! Laugh

Saying "I don't think it will help" is not good enough. What is the point in asking the question if you aren't willing to try advice.

I have already told you what to do and I am telling you that it will work. If it doesn't then it is likely that you have messed up somewhere else or your admin email address doesn't exist!

Again, I suggest you remove the backslash...HINT HINT.....

OKay, now I have tried everything you suggested regarding the links.cfg file, but nothing helps!!!!! Well, I don't get a 500 errormessage now for everything without the '/' administratorsaddress.
And somehow the -i isn't recognized......

So onto the next... how is it possible for an emailaddress not to exist on a server (webmaster@angelscharmedslayer.com) when I can send emails to it and just recieve them at home and when I can send emails from it to another emailaddress and also recieve that email? I'm confused here.

Here's the exact link.scfg:

Are there any other settings wrong? Everything else works.... well accept for actually showing the building of the pages, while the pages are build (still confused about that, but since the pages are being build I'm not really concerned). I haven't tried to massmail the linkowners again. I'd like to get the emailnotification working first.

Thanks again for all your help! I didn't want to sounds as if I wouldn't try your advice, I was in the meantime, but I didn't expect it would work.

I forgot about this but most unix systems have two sendmails
/usr/sbin/sendmail and /usr/lib/sendmail both should work

Tried that too now, but it doesn't help either.

Keep having the same problem. I don't get it anymore. I have followed all advices that have been given here, but none of them work.

I think I'll just make a standard email at home, so that I can validate links and send them an email from home with all the information. That's the only thing I can think of now, but it's pretty frustrating.

Any one who has a solution?
