move to new server error
I just moved my links 2.0 to a new server. It seems to be running okay except that I get this error when I build - doesn't seem to hurt anything that I can tell but I don't like having an error - any ideas?

This same error has been posted quite a few times and most recently in this forum in the past two days. What you need to check is that your hits and ratings directory in the data folder is set to 777 (drwxrwxrwx)....

----this is a recording------

They are set to 777.

I would test your rate.cgi and jump.cgi scripts to see if the ratings and hits files are being created properly. If not, then there could be a problem with your configurations in the links.cfg file.

Eliot,

I tested rate.cgi and jump.cgi and everything is working. The rates and votes seem to update okay so it "appears" that everything is working fine, but I still get that same error when I update. Could this be one of those errors than don't affect anything? I've checked and rechecked permissions and made sure files were uploaded in ASCII. Any thoughts?

Thanks much,
Mari

1) Delete all the RATING and HITS ID files in the hits and ratings directory.

2) Then re-build using Staggered Build.

3) Then re-build using Build All.

I recommended this to another Links user and it worked like a charm.

Good luck!
