Open or save?
Hi, i am trying to install Links 2 as a favor for someone i know, but i come over a problem. Can anyone help? What is happening is i have uploaded tne files to their server and as far as i can tell the permissions are set correctly and all of the files and foldres have been chmoded correctly. What keeps happening is i get a box appear when ever i try to open any of the cgi files asking me if i want to 'save' the file to hard drive, or 'open' it from where it is. Visit the following url to see what i mean;

http://home.netsi.net/vstopnice/links/cgi-bin/admin/admin.cgi

Anyone got any ideas? They could be greatly received.

Thanks.

I received the login info you sent me for the FTP so I can upload and install the Links script for you. It should be done in less that 15 minutes.

A couple of bumps with your server, but everything is working perfectly! I checked all the links, and every one of them works. ran all the tests, and came back with no errors. Thanks for letting me help you.Smile

Everything...BUT, and this is a big BUT, the password protection for the admin.cgi script...wide open...installing security measures should be a part of your service agreement, Shawn. Wink

Doesn't matter about switching directories around...You basically re-configured the directory structure to the default installation of Links...and I was able to access the admin.cgi very easily...Wink

Same problem as youradds... shawnander couldn't you give a plain explanation of what to do? Giving away server passwords isn't the most beautiful thing for most people :-)

Thanks

Just like Eliot had said in a previous forum, when I first started out learning Perl, I needed a lot of help from others. I would hit the forums like this one, and would ask questions until I was blue in the face. Now I am giving people help that need it. I don't request personal security information for servers. If they want to give that information out, they can at their own descression. If I do use their login ID and passwords to install scripts, (not just Links) I will install the script, and then get rid of their personal information when I am done. I will then request them to change their main password so only they have it. I am probably one of the most giving persons out there in the webmaster's community. I enjoy helping others because I know what it is like to be stuck and frustrated. Have a good one.Smile

And if you are allowed to change your MASTER PASSWORD via telnet or other method (like web-based forms), then you could always change your MASTER password after someone has finished setting up your scripts.
