Premature End of Script Header

Premature End of Script Header
I have installed links 2.0 and have followed the directions rather carefully to ensure that it would work. I have chmodded all the files/directories appropriately and uploading in ASCII mode. I have edited the cgi files to change the path to perl. The links.cfg file can be viewed here in text format http://zmedia.cellrevenge.net/links_cfg.txt and I have made all the modifications to it(path to perl/absolute paths) in respect to this http://zmedia.cellrevenge.net/cgi-bin/server_info.cgi

Upon opening http://zmedia.cellrevenge.net/...inks/setup/admin.cgi I get an internal server error.
The error log says:

[Thu Oct 17 12:44:12 2002] [error] [client 161.184.179.113] Premature end of script headers: /home/virtual/site8/fst/var/www/cgi-bin/links/setup/admin.cgi

If anyone can give me an answer I will be extremely greatful.

Do you have the directory set to 755? That can sometimes be the cause of it not working, and giving that error....

Been awhile since i worked with cgi-scripts but i think i remember you get that error

when you have uploaded the script as binary and not as ascii. (converting ms-dos text-format to unix text-format)

The only thing I can suggest, is you start again right from the beginning.

Make sure your path to perl is correct, check your links.cfg paths and chmod settings.

If after all that it still does not work, I am sure one of the mods/veterans around will give you a better idea.

I have redone it several times and yet I still get the error. I was extremely careful not to put incorrect paths or chmod wrong.

1) As stu2002 mentioned, you should re-install the Links 2.0 package (using the default folder structure rather than trying to use your own).

2) Triple check the file/folder permissions after you've re-installed the package.

3) Check to make sure that your server allows CGI scripts to run...some servers are configured to only run PL files, not CGI files.

Ok i have redone it and have the exact same structure as it says and I have chmodded it correctly...still i am having problems and I get this error from my log

[Tue Oct 29 09:10:32 2002] [error] [client 161.184.182.244] Premature end of script headers: /home/virtual/site8/fst/var/www/cgi-bin/links/admin/admin.cgi

If you would like to see what i based the settings for the links.cfg (and the path to perl)on you can see them here http://zmedia.cellrevenge.net/cgi-bin/server_info.cgi and to see links.cfg in txt form you can go here http://zmedia.cellrevenge.net/links_cfg.txt
and I am able to run .cgi extensions because server_info.cgi (above) works.
http://zmedia.cellrevenge.net/...inks/admin/admin.cgi for the actual file that is not working.

It may be that I didn't edit the sendmail path as you can see in the links_cfg.txt (above), if that will cause it tell me ......nevermind i just added the path to sendmail

Stealth..if you could do me a big favor I would appreciate it if you could help me install it with like a messenging service or something (maybe if i give you ftp). I would be EXTREMELY greatful.

you may need to use the full path to links.cfg in the require lines in each .cgi file.

I have used the full path in all the cgi files to links.cfg which is /home/virtual/site8/fst/var/www/cgi-bin/links/admin/links.cfg and yet it still does not work.

If there is someone out there who has installed links 2.0 numerous times and wouldn't mind, i would appreciate it if you would install it for me because I am at a loss.

I have solved the problem...apparently i didn't chmod 2 files in the hits/ratings directory to 666(horrible readme file, doesn't explain clearly). I would like to thank all of you guys who helped me out.

well done, it can get rather frustrating at times, the obvious mistakes are always the killer....

Well done in finding the error
