No, I don't want to have 755 on links.db
Where in the script can I edit the permission-values on the links.db?

Thanks in advance.

With my limited knowledge I am not user permissions has anything to do with a script but more with the server side.

In the readme no where does it say links.db has to be chmodded to 755.

Quote:
Set permissions:
chmod 755 (-rwxr-xr-x) on all .cgi files.
chmod 666 (-rw-rw-rw-) on all files in the data directory.
chmod 666 (-rw-rw-rw-) on all your template files (if using the online editor).
chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) on the hits directory
chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) on the ratings directory
chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) on the directory where Links pages will be created.

Hope this of some help.

STOR links.db
553 links.db: Permission denied
ERROR:> Access denied
STATUS:> Failed to send d:\web\porten\backup2\links.db

Still doesn't work. And I set the permissions to be 777 the first time I set the damn thing up. The files are set to be -rw-r--r--

And just how would I be able to do that? The files are owned by either the server or "nobody". I can't change the permissions myself, so how do I make the script do it for me? How can I set it to either 777 or 666?

Look in the FAQ section of LINKS and you will see a FAQ that addresses how to add codes to the nph-build.cgi file that will maintain the permissions of the database file.

Wink

Also, the better method of building your index is via telnet. Delete all the files and directories below your LINKS non-cgi-generated pages, and then build your index via telnet.

You don't know how to do this via telnet??...learn UNIX and Shell programming.

Right...That is why I told you to delete all the files (the ones that are owned by the system default user: nobody), then rebuild the index via telnet. When you do this, then the permissions of the files and directories will be under your admin account.

Thanks for your advice Elliot Smile

I know how to telnet and remove, add and modify most stuff on the server. You'll maybe see that in my other threads.

The problem is that I don't own those files anymore because the nph-build has made it belong to the user "nobody" (which is the webserver). And I don't think my ISP would be happy when I need them to reset those permissions all the time. links.db in the data-directory is set to be: -rw-r--r--. Can't edit it, and worst of all: can't remove it..

I've just installed DBMan, so I hope it doesn't use the same file-permission system. Anyway.. I'll go check the FAQs.

I just used the tiny modification Bobsie made and it fixed the problem =)

Now I'm finally able to delete the data-directory and/or modify the whole database in Microsoft Excell. I think MS Excell is great when I need to move specific information from one field to another when you have 1390 links..

Anyway.. thanks a lot!
