Hi all...
Im frustrated today... I had links up and running perfectly for weeks.... Now i'm having trouble getting it to work again..
Today when i went to validate.. it started off with an error saying permission denied for whatever it was... so i fixed it... then i tried build all again.. no luck...
Each time i fix it i can get one step further... But now i'm stuck...
Building What's New Page . . .

I don't know what to do... I've chmoded everything again..
I also didn't require the links.db.bak before... it worked fine just as links.db.. but then i got the links.db.bak error.. which i fixed now by just having both db.bak and .db in there.. Was the only way it would work...

Last thing is this... what does this mean? another chmod error? This is driving me crazy..

I now have to go through every file and CHMOD it again for some reason... How can i stop this? Why did this happen?

Yesterday i tried to install Ksearch (a website search engine) on my site with no luck.. would that have had anything to do with it?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated... thanks...

Ok... im getting there! persistance is the key...
I'm now only getting this error but it seems to be working fine still.. goes passed it anyway and finishes the build ... any ideas??

Are you sure you CHMODed the backup directory and the files in it correctly?

yes, i've chmoded everything correctly...
It even worked... but each time i get a new entry it seems to be changing... I fixed it all up completely yesterday...
Validated links fine today... And got to...

I'll just go through and chmod everything in /links/pages/
again and it will probably work again till i get another link added...
I'm not sure how to avoid having to do this all the time? any ideas or suggestions to why this is happening and what i can try to stop it would be appreciated...

Delete everything in the /pages/ folder (except index.html). Then do a re-build. Does that sort it? Also, check that the pages folder is set to 777.

You should not delete EVERYTHING in the pages directory as Andy said, just chmod the following directories to 777:

/pages
/pages/new
/pages/cool
/pages/ratings

Just chmodding /pages would normally work but it seems like your chmodding is messed up so try all above.

Found this old thread because this is exactly what's happening to me in the exact same directory - "New"

The CHMOD actually hasn't *changed* on index.html in the New directory, it still reads "777".
I've tried deleting that file and replacing it.
I've modified it's permission through 3 different ftp and file manager clients (they all say 777)

Any other clues?

No - they are both 777. As they have been for a long time and as other index pages in other directories are. Is that wrong?

Yup..thats wrong ;) The index.html file should be 666, not 777 :p
