Change the backup directory to 777 (rwxrwxrwx).

Well I believe that I had to manually crete a file in notepad save it as links.db.bak and set the permissions. I set mine to rw-rw-rw Make sure you have set the permissions on the directory per the instructions as well.

OK fixed last problem Sort of
now now matter where i place /pages dir and css and image file and seems no matter how i chmod them this is error..am I supposed to make an html file in there(I dont think i am)

You need to also change the other NON-cgi directories to 777, like:

/links/pages/
/links/pages/new/
/links/pages/ratings/

This is clearly stated in the README file. Please read it more carefully.

LIKE I MENTIONED BEFORE...You have to also change the permission of your /links/new/ directory to 777 (rwxrwxrwx).
