is it possible to sort links like - by ratings first followed by remaining in alphabetical order but where the letter you start with is randomized. So one day you go from ghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdef and then another, stuvwxyzabcdefghijklmnopqr.

you can do this sorta by spliting the SORTED array into two.. then pasting the first into the second..
