search problem
Hi all,
As I go about testing and debugging I have found that when I conduct a websearch from links 2.0 extended the search can return as many links as it finds, and lists out the results like so:

Your search returned 3,280,000 Links.

Pages: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 | 11 | Next

so on and so forth...but when i want to view the next page,
the results don't show up....all that displays is:

Your search returned 3,280,000 Links.

No links are showing up between the page links. Anyone come across this problem before??

Oh and I thought I could report a bug I fixed. when in the admin I ran a check on reciprocal links and was getting an error message that concerned permissions. Permissions was not the problem. In line 91 or so of templates.pm "my $mail" was called, when only "$mail" needed to be there. It must have been a typo.

rtenpin, check out the thread entitled FYI in the Discussion forum.

You should contact mycgiscript.com about this as it is "their" code.

This forum is for Gossamer Threads Links 2.0 software. You are using an unauthorized (?), unsupported third-party version. Please ask the "author" of that program for assistance. If assistance is unavailable I suggest adding to our complaints against that person both in this forum and the GT Discussion forum.

well...I see both your points. I do not want to get involved with the discussion in the FYI thread (despite having purchased links 2.0 extended from mycgiscript.com). You guys are arguing too much there. If the search engine portion of my script is not gossamer-threads based and is an unsupported mod then I will go for help at mycgiscripts.com.
BTW I believe that Gossamer Threads is getting thier share
also, check out the resources section.....links extended is there as a user contributed mod.

No-one is arguing in that thread....it is a discussion to make people aware.

I noticed the "mod" in the resources section too but that doesn't mean it is ok...Alex may have just validated it without looking at the site.

then why not talk to Alex rather than air your disdain in public? Seems that your discussion there is counter-productive until either of you speak with Alex directly.

Perhaps I will since I am the guy that shelled out moola.

In the meantime thanks for the help and I am sure I'll find some more buggy stuff to look up in this forum. Just please do not ignore my queries because I have a mod that was not scripted by gossamer-threads directly. I followed the link from THIS SITE to my cgiscripts.com when I made my purchase.

To me this would seem authorized by Gossamer Threads and you guys should not second guess them. Remember what they say about assuming........
So, enough of this "chicken little, the sky is falling stuff". I guess I'll figure out the problem on my own.

Whether or not GT gets their fair share of business is not the point. MyCGIScripts.com apears to be a bogus company, that has modified and sold programs without proper authorization. This person has stolen some of my work, got money for it, and only removed it AFTER I threatened legal action.

Additionally, I would just like to remind everyone I will close this thread if necessary.

I've already explained why I publically mentioned it...Im pretty sure that if you were thinking of purchasing the "extended" version you would have been grateful too see that thread before you shelled out $250.

I don't know why you are getting stressed with me - Im the one trying to point all this out to try to HELP people. It isn't my fault that you wasted $250. I don't mean that in a horrible way but it is the truth.

I'm not ignoring your query. myscriscripts.com claim to provide you with support and so if you paid for the script from them then you should use their support.

It would be nice if Alex had cleared this up from the start instead of letting it drag on.

I've tried emailing/pm'ing Alex about 10+ times but in the last month I've had no responses.

I have not wasted my money, the problems i have had are minor, and frankly the support here has been just as useless to me here as it may well be at mycgiscript.com at any rate.

Not a single one of my queries here has been answered with a bit of useful information, and some haave been quite rude.

As a consumer I have no way of knowing what snippets of code have been added by someone else or authored by someone else. Lighten up.

the fact of the matter is, Gossamer Threads recieved it's portion of the license fee and still bears responsibility for the heart of the code. If you guys have a problem with mycgiscripts hacking YOUR mods then, well, you should take it up with them.
In regard to your comments in the FYI thread concerning the amount of posts that are in regard to the extended mod,....there are a hell of a lot of others concerning other mods as well.

I hope that I do not encounter any more problems, as I do not want to suffer through the public lambasting I may get from posting a query because I followed a manually approved link from THIS SITE and spent money on a mod that suits my needs that you guys have a personal problem with.

Yes that is an important point, but not the point of my FYI thread. GT bear responsibility for their code, but not, as the quote above indicates, the responsibility for osmeone elses code.

Yes but those mods are authorized and ORIGINAL. If you need support with them then you can always come here, but we shouldn't have to support someone elses unauthorized mods.

All other things aside, this problem seems to be caused by the code used in the "extended" section. No one apart from those who wrote it or bought it, have seen or have access to the code.

Ie. it's impossible to help as we don't have a clue what code is used.

I haven't got the slightest idea why you are supporting this company, or why you believe the users of this forum and GT is obligated to support a program in modified form (like the HyperSeek search engine), and that has exploited the work of dozens of honest users. If mycgiscripts cannot live up to their support promises, that is your problem, and you are certainly welcome to make a formal complaint to the BBB (Better Business Bureau) in you town.

I'm closing this thread.

There was confusion by some users about my comment about HyperSeek. I did not mean to imply that HyperSeek is a hack of Links as that is certainly not the case. They share many of the same features yet were developed independantly. GT & HyperSeek have a good working relationship.

That said, my understanding is that largely modified versions of HyperSeek are not elligible for technical support and upgrades, in the same way we are not obligated to support third-party versions of GT's programs.

Furthermore, Alex has posted a message in the GT Discussion forum that clears up this whole issue. mycgiscripts.com is an authorized reseller, and the program in question has been thoroughly reviewed for copyrighted material.

Just to clear things up, HyperSeek is not a derivative of Links, or any GT product. It's a completely separate script.
