I already have entered info into the links database. If I add additional fields, would that be a problem? Also, I plan to use these new fields (price, options) so that I can let my users search these fields. Would this work if I made a new search.cgi script? I know, stupid question. I just wanted an answer from someone who has done this already.

You can definately add new fields to the database. Shouldn't be any problems.

Also, you don't need to rewrite search.cgi. There is an option in links.def that lets you pick what fields you want it to search on.
