I use Bannermatic which is freeware and very good as it works with or without SSI and cookies. Also has a nice frontend admin manager which makes adding and managing banners easier and provides useful statistical information.

I came up with a novel way of incorporating Bannermatic
into Links by utilising the "header" feature in Links 2.0
with templates, and the "group ID" feature in Bannermatic,
which basically allows banner ads to be easily targetted
to specific categories for maximum clickthru's.

Bannermatic can be obtained from:

If you have php 4 on your server then I suggest you look a php ads new, it can host banners on and off your site and even do html banners, it really works good, it can call banners with java script, as an image, or the regular way. It will call certain banners only on wendsday at 3pm etc. It keeps track of exposures and clicks. It is a fantastic program if you have php 4 and it self installs in about 10 seconds once you change the variables and upload every thing to your server. It is also free.

At my site, we use AdButler.com. Works like a charm! They have around 6 different sizes to choose from, and you can even have advertisers have their own accounts!
