Are you allowed to have hidden fields so that when a person searches the index they are searching something similar to a meta tag that just lists search terms? Thanks in advance.

Looking at search.cgi it is apparent that all (sorry, not all 
) database fields and field names are searched.

What fields are searched is defined in links.def
@search_fields = (1,2,5);But that doesn't stop anyone from doing exact field searches.

Why not create a new field called keywords and then define that you only want to use this field for searching in the links.def file
