Build All builds all the pages in one fell swoop, without stopping. At least, it is not supposed to stop. However, sometimes Build All times out when run in a web browser (it doesn't for shell or telnet accounts but not everyone has those). So, for people who have problems using Build All, Links v2 has the Build Staggered and Build Staggered (Auto).
Both forms of the staggered build allow you to update hit and vote counters, perform backups, build the pages, etc., in phases. Each phase is designed to be small enough to prevent time-outs or, at least, that is the theory. The only difference between the two methods is that, for Build Staggered, you must hit enter at the end of each phase to start the next phase. Build Staggered (Auto) starts each phase automagically after a slight delay after the end of the previous phase.
I hope this explains it.
