how do i password protect the admin directory only?

That script of mine will create the .htaccess and .htpasswd files for you. Just upload it into your admin folder, and run it. Then just follow the instructions

If you are using apache you can still use .htaccess on NT.
If you are using IIS, I believe you can password protect folders from the IIS admin (?)
