I got some cgi script that was supposed to pass protect my directories. I accidentally tried to pass protect my main directory with all my html files but my server does not support .htaccess files. Now none of my html documents can be viewed. Can someone please tell me how to remove the .htaccess file from my main httpdocs directory? Thanks!

Access your account via FTP, then delete the .htaccess file.

Make sure that you have configured your FTP program to show HIDDEN files.

I'm not sure how to configure my ftp program to show hidden files. I use cuteftp. If you know how i might be able to get it to show hidden files i would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

i don't like cuteftp, personally, but there may be a preference 'show hidden files' or 'show files that begin with .' or somesuch.

if you're unable to figure it out, use my pc ftp program of choice: http://www.smartftp.com

however, if your site suddenly became unusable after creating the .htaccess directory then it may be that your site *does* support .htaccess, but for some reason your pages are not being allowed through.

check your permissions, they can prevent access of the stranges things.
