Personalize e-mail to subscribers
I'm wondering what steps should be taken to personalize the mail to my subscribers. It couldn't be as simple as Dear <%'Contact Name'%>, could it?

Useing your favorite text editor, LOL, open ads_admin.pl.

Do a search for $messagebody .

It will bring you to the e-mail messages. Be careful, you can screw up the script if you write an illegal character ...

Also, of course, you can modify the welcome.txt file ...

Thanks splinky_0, but that's the wrong subscriber. I was speaking of the Links newsletter subscriber.

you got it right, just use
Contact Name : <%Contact Name%>
Contact Email: <%Contact Email%>
just like in email_add.txt

Something is not right. I am speaking of the subscribers in email.db. I subscribed myself and put in <%Contact Name%>, sent my self a newsletter and here's what I got,

Contact Name is the field used in the links.def file for people submitting their URL. You would have to do the following:

1) Add the following tag in the site_html_mailing routine in the site_html_templates.pl file:

Code:
name => $name,

2) Then in the email txt file, add the following tag:

Code:
<%name%>

Nope, that didn't do it either. Somewhere <%name%> or <%Contact Name%> has to be indentified as that particular field in email.db. It's got to be in the same place where <%Contact Email%> points to email.db. Just can't find it.
