Open Directory Data
Hi,

I would like to know if there is an easy way to import some or all of the data from the Open Directory project? The data is freely available and is the links, and catagories etc of the directory.. any suggestions? Oh the link for the data is http://www.dmoz.org/rdf

This has been discussed before in this forum....

Search for RDF ODP.

BTW...this is not really conducive for LINKS 2.0 to integrate a lot of data from ODP into the links.db file. The better solution is to use the RDF dump that comes with LINKS SQL, which can handle a lot more data.

You are limited to around 5,000 links with LINKS 2.0.

This ODP RDF dump can be usefullu with Links 2.0
It allows me to start with +2000 listing in about 120 categories without adding any links manually! I guess this saves me months.Cool

The problem is just handling the DMOZ RDF files. The content file is now about 100MB unextracted and over 500 MB extracted. So you need server with enough space. Or you can doanload it if you have broadband connection (like me Cool ) to your PC and then install Perl and...

Eliot, I'm sure Links SQL is great, but most of us need time to grow in to it. Price is right but not cheap!
