For 'Related Categories' where there is none, displays 'NULL' whose URL points to NULL directory which of course also does not exist.

Are you using templates? If so, do you have
<%if related%>
<%related%>
<%endif%>
in your template, or just <%related%>? The former would only print the related categorys if they actually exist; the latter would always try to print them.

And there are no related categories for any categories.

Hmmm...then nothing should print. Which mods have you installed? Perhaps one of them is affecting the output?

Out of curiosity, try making one of your categories related to one of the others, rebuild, and see what happens.
