What is considered the maximum length of a field for Links 2.0? Is 15,000 characters out of the question?
Here's why I'm asking ...
In the past, we've used the (old) detail.cgi mod that allows you to store details in external files (I think widgetz wrote this). We have a lot of short articles on the site. The text files average 13k - 16k each, with a no more than 15,000 characters.
The downside of keeping the articles in external text files is that words are not included in the standard search results.
Our current database with 500 entries is only +- 183k. The files I'm thinking of adding are another 300k.
What are the implications of loading these directly into the db? Can the flat file properly handle this? Currently searches are blazing fast -- would having all the copy within the db greatly effect overhead, etc.?
Thanks -
