I noticed when links backs up the db's it names it with the date. I don't need all the previous backups, do I? basically what i'm asking is is it safe to delete all the old db backups since it has created one for almost every day.

Yes. And there are Threads in both this forum and in the Links 2.0 Customization Forum that discuss deleting backups.
