Links and COPPA?

Links and COPPA?
I searched throught the forum and could not find any threads on this. Has anyone thought about Links and COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)?

A standard Links install will collect e-mail address and contact name. I have to re-read the law to see if it's an issue to collect this information from children under 13 (which Links does) or collect it and display it (which links does not do).

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

My understanding of COPPA is that it relates to the following web technologies:

1) Chat Rooms
2) Message Boards/Discussion Forums
3) Newsgroups
4) Listservs

While the Newsletter option in LINKS is not necessarily a listserv, it is an email list, but the user does not directly interact with the list, and the identity of the user is concealed. The newsletter is sent from the Site Administrator to a group of subscribers.

My understanding is that COPPA is providing ways to protect children under the age of 13 from petafile attacks or other abuses in terms of interacting with other people via Internet technologies.

I really don't think it relates to any of the current Gossamer Threads scripts.
