How to change user:nobody group:nobdy
I uploaded my files to a new host. Everything is working fine, except the final step - can't jump to the actual links (http://www.forexample.com/cgi-bin/jump.cgi?ID=219 goes to "the page cannot be found.").

I noticed that the links.db file is own/group by "nobody." The rest of the files in the data folder are own/group by my user name as they are supposed to be. I even deleted the file and reupload it with right user/group.

The owner/group changes for links.db to "nobody" everytime I do a "Build All." Would this be the reason why the jumps to the actual links don't work. BTW, no errors when doing a "Build All."

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There is a FAQ about changing permissions of the links.db file in the Resources section and also codes have been posted and re-posted in the LINKS 2.0 forums for fixing this bug.

Search for links.db chmod 666 using the following search criteria:

Forum: Links 2.0 Discussion
Keywords: links.db chmod 666
Option: And
Date Range: All posts

Thank you kindly for the info; although, the problem remains.

The fix was able to keep the file permission at 666. What I also need is to have the file owner/group change from "nobody" to my own user name. The fix did not do that.

Any other sugguestions.

Uh...if you search the support forums for nobody, you would've found quite a few threads where this has been discussed before!

The problem is that the NOBODY user is used when you build files via the web browser.

The Fix???

Do the following:

1) DELETE all your files and folders in the /links/pages/ folder.

2) Then re-build your directory via TELNET, which will retain your ACCOUNT username rather than setting the permission of the files/folders to NOBODY.

Got it??? Wink
