Category Template keeps blowing up.

Category Template keeps blowing up.
HI, I am new here and am trying to make links work on NT 4, Website Pro 1.1h, Activestate perl 5.04.02 I think, no style sheets. I do have many perl scripts running already.

I use notepad to edit the category.html, open in the admin/edit, save the file, and "Build All" This works, and I can build as many times as needed. I edit the template again, and "kablewy", I either get NO output, blank page, all the source % stuff, and other errors.

I thought I read somewhere that there were problems with carraige returns, but cannot find the thread again, or find out what to do about it. I do notice that everytime I edit the template in the admin, it adds additional cr's.

Is there any hope for this problem. I am purchasing links for a customer, who is getting real antsy about completion.

You can see the failed pages @ http://www.websitelinkdir.com/ try a category.

Thanks

I've had bad luck editing HTML in text editors. It's supposed to work just fine, but I always end up with blank pages!

Thus, I've been using Arachnophilia (a great careware HTML editor) without any problems. I highly recommend it to anyone having editor problems. I don't have the link in front of me, but it's on my "webstuff" page at:

Just curious, why are you opening the files in the admin/edit after working on them in Notepad? Are you making subsequent changes? If using the admin interfaced editor, have you set the necessary permissions (666, I believe) on the template files?

Good luck,
Dan

I have tried several editors, Netscape 3, works the best, but the pages will not build untill I open them in the admin editor and save them. (???) Composer destroys the entire page. MS stuff will not treat the tags properly at all.

Using the original templates. If I cut'n'paste in notepad, everything from <%title_linked%> to Pages Updated On: <%date%> - <%time%> and save it, open it in the admin editor and save it, it works JUST FINE, if I edit it again, Poof.

This is NT not unix and it writes the files OK, so I assume (dangerous word) permissions are correct.

Any ideas?
