Password Help Please
I screwed up the first time bu trying to install a mysql links mod on regular 2.0 so cut me a little slack please. Almost had it working. LOL

I installed the mods that were pointed out in the other thread but none of them appear to be the same as the one used here

http://www.wwwdata.f2s.com/cgi-bin/modify.cgi

This site is refferenced in a nother post here where the gu had problems installing the mod.

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/perl/forum/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=L2Cust&Number=119827&page=&view=&sb=&vc=1#Post119827

Could please someone point me in the right direction to get this thing modified?

Thank you ahead of time,

G

Start from the beginning...use a backup of your add.cgi and modify.cgi scripts...and install the MODs that I referenced in the other Thread.

Eliot,
Not to sound stupid, but the links you gave me have mods I have installed, none of them have anything to do with the add.cgi. Maybe they are the wrong mods. Maybe someone changed them. I am looking for the mod that lets each person have a real password to change thier listing like what is used in the above url, not where if they know thier ID number, URL and email they can change their listing.

I'm sorry I am a pain, but I have scoured the mods twice and they donot even come close to the mod you helped the other guy with. Even the code he put in his modify.cgi is different, he has part of it is listed in his post.

Because that particular MOD is no longer available...

Again, use a backup copy of your modify.cgi and apply the MODS that I linked in the other Thread you posted today.

This is so strange. I am used to working with vBulletin Mods that can be found forever on the sites owned by those that created them. Even I have a few. Expiring Mods? What's next? LOL

Is there anyone out there that might have a copy of this secret MOD? Please email it to me.

Thank you ahead of time.

WHY don't you use the other MODIFY PASSWORD MODS?????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Don't understand WHY you can't get them to work, because they work JUST as well as the MOD that was removed! Tongue

Eliot,
It just wont work for me. I am using the links program for more of a sooped up directory. I am modifing it so they can sign up with or without a URL. Some of the people that are currently listed with us (about 50%) do not have URLs so they can't put in thier URL to modify it. That is why I need the mod that uses the password.

I am sorry to be a pain but I cannot understand the mentality of placing mods out for public use on the net and then making every last copy disappear. Someone has to have a copy of it, somewhere.

Paul,
The mod that I installed required the user to have an Link ID, an Link URL, and Email Address. Some of my people do not have URLs.

Well modify it so the URL isn't required.

Take out the codes that require the LINK URL...and edit your TEMPLATE files accordingly.

Then we run into the other problem. The email address for the listing needs to be shown in the listing. This means someone with the Link ID that can be grabbed from the URL and the the Email address that is in the link can modify the link, or did I miss something?

Use another field like Contact Name...use a field that is NOT publicly available in your directory.
