But Nph-build.cgi stopped at "Gathering Category and Link information . . .".

Hey,

I found a simple bug (an html-bug)...
# Print HTML Header
$use_html ?
print qq|<html><head><tittle>Links Manager: Building Pages</title></head>

"tittle" must be "title"

It is most likly that your hosting provider's server is "killing" the script. I hav'nt got a web site of my own, but I setup Links for a friend. He has about 5,000 links in about 300 cat. If you was to build it in Telnet if the script was overloding the server(like my friends) then you would get a message saying "Killed", but since the server only displays this in Telnet then your browser would only stop. Consider going to a new host, as you really need Telnet to do almost anything.

What you could do, and what I'm doing now, is take nph-build.cgi modify the subs and put in some submit buttons, that way it can do one thing, then you press a button and it does anther, although I'm not quit sure that will work, anyway that may be an ideal for the next upgrade of Links.
