I still can't figure out how to handle non existent users with GM!! I receive around 2000 mails a day to none existent users!!
At first I enabled the bounce feature. This sent back the GM generated bounced error message. Now as 95% of the e-mails I receive are SPAM messages the sender has a false e-mail address. This results in that i.e. Hotmail will send me a message back saying that the sender does not exist. As the GM bounced message lacks a "reply-to" fields in the header I only get back around 30% of these mails. The remaining 30% still figure out where the mail came from.
The result is that I receive 600 error messages a day from my SMTP server!! What is also concerning is that Hotmail and other services might think that I AM sending SPAM to them and blacklist me!!!
The main problem is that the GM setup uses a catch-all mail which means that the sender of the SPAM message will never receive a proper SMTP error message.
I have talked to Gossamer about this problem. They suggested that they could do some custom work that would cost me some money and have GM automatically delete incoming mails. First, if this is the only solution to handle SPAM IT SHOULD BE INCULDED WITH GM. Second, I don't like the fact that the sender doesn't receive a error message.
The solution I have now is that I daily login to GM and manually delete all inserted undeliverables. Is this really the only solution to handle SPAM??
If someone has some other working setup please let me know!!
