if you had say 3000 email accounts how much bandwidth are we taking about? gigs? megs? I know that most would never use ther account but does anyone know how domanding it is on bandwidth. Do hosts charge extra for mass sending or count email transfer as the total bandwidth?

Bandwidth depends on a lot of factors. The complexity of your templates, number of messages going through your system, etc. It's very hard to come up with any sort of useful numbers.
Mosts hosts include email as part of bandwidth, but don't charge extra for it.
