Is it possible to configure GMail with POP3 mode in such a way that it leaves a copy of the messages on the mail server?

No, but most mail clients have this option (Leave message on server).

Yes, I know that most mail clients have this option.

The reason why I was asking is that I'd like to test my GMail installation, but I'd still like to download my mail locally. I changed incoming.pl so that it would not delete the mails on the POP3 server, but that only had the effect that it downloaded the same messages again and again....
