Time To Upgrade

Time To Upgrade
I need some advice as it's time for me to grow up to links-sql, Very skeptical due to ignorance and so please bear with me.

My first problem is that I currently have
800 categories on links 2.0 and it's timming out and the link count is only 1017. The links.db files is only 200k and it's because I've limited the site description to 100 characters. However, it won't build all and some categories disappear when I do and this overall issue is not about links v2.0, it's to explain to other what is happening and why I need to upgrade

Eliot has already helped me out with that, but I am also going to leave a URL of a host along with some further questions I'd hope somebody would help me with.

The URL of the host I am thinking of going with is

http://www.cqhost.com/

Question 2: Has anybody ever heard of them?

To let you know what I am getting myself into, I am planning to go with their Ultra plan.

URL: http://www.cqhost.com/ultra.html

They do have a a kick ass designed web site and also have provided a domain specifically for support/technical help

URL: http://asksupport.com/

within the ULTRA plan it offers 5 mysql databases????

What questions should I ask regarding this?

I did get some feedback from Alex, but he is a bit busy and He never did hear of them and so I was wondering if anybody else has?

I did ask the host about the Mod_Perl and it does come with that particular acccount only and my guess is because that plan offers 5 databases.

Netywork and servers also seem to be very powerful.

I would appreciate any feedback I can get.

Thanks

My only concern is that at $30/month they can't provide the necessary resources.

Many services at $300/month can't provide the resouces.

You may be able to start with them and eventually move up or on. The basic features perl5, mod_perl and mysql are there.

Just a quick note...

For sites that are only going to have say... 5000 links tops - then a $99 a year package from Tera-Byte will suit you.

I have Webhost Area on there, and have got a kick ass dedicated server ready for another project Smile

pugdog,

Why would one pay $300.00 a month when the host Alex mentions is offering it at $150.00 a month on the Links-sql page?

Just curious?

gerardo

I also have everyone.net free mail offered at my site @mydomain.com to be concerned about and it looks like tera-byte.com does not have alot to say ontheir site?

Another question I have is Telnet or SSH which I beleive is what you call it. Is it recommended that I have these options for links-sql.

So that anybody else who may try to answer me will understand my site, the intentions with I have for the site and how it will operate in terms of indexing, I'll leave a description bloew

-----------Terms for hosting options------

1)I will not be surfing the Internet to include links as they will have to include themselves or they will not be in the database. They have fingers and can add themselves :-)

2) The site only gets 900 hits per week not quite yahoo yet :-)

3) If links-sql is what I get and I go with the above host (being the guinee pig), I don't see the site having anymore than 5000 links by next year as I won't import others data and I wont add via surfing the Internet. My site will be a unique directory ( not that others here are not ) and may even offer text only resume pages witch the site will host and indexed.

3) Site description will be set to 100 characters only, no more.

4) I am on a 19.95 a month plan and If I want to be a big bad directory, I shouldn't be looking for cheap hosting as I'll get what I deserve for being a cheapskate.

5) They told me I could actually go on a cheaper plan and I said no to the Buisness plan

http://www.cqhost.com/business.html

and I said no, I'll go with the next step up.

http://www.cqhost.com/ultra.html

My site as small as it is nearly paid for itself and that's why I am dabbling in this, the bookstore and film store on site seem to rock :-) However, I don't own the affiliate programs, but they are nearly paying for the hosting at 19.95 per month which I out grew.

Not afraid to pay here if the site justifies it and if it doesn't then I probably shouldn't be doing it?

I am not big enough for a dedicated server yet, but willing to grow to pay for one.
