When I try to do a build in beta5 I receive "page cannot be displayed" and no pages get built. I checked the paths and url's - all ok.
Does linkssql build pages from the templates like links perl does? Where do I set the templates set it uses.
I'm a little lost and feeling quite stupid.

Links SQL NG uses the ../templates/default directory.

You should really post this in that forum. Questions and help about the beta and the NG version are there. You'll find some additional help.

It's a bit complicated, but the default install should run out of the box. You just copy your own templates over the default ones. Leave all the extra templates alone. You'll need to move any globals you created to the globals.txt file, via the edit globals option in the build menu.
