I'm very close to be able to purchase a program to run my directory but I want to be very sure I'm getting the right one. I run a directory of links (actually, more then one) and am expanding my site hugely. Can anyone tell me the differences between Links and DBman and which is better for what kind of site? Also, I understand DBMan can run several databases off one copy, can Links? Or do I need to but a license for each database I use to for?

Have you read the product pages?? They are pretty self-explanatory.

Anyway...

1) The main difference are:

LINKS SQL:

a) Builds static web pages
b) Organizes links/resources into categories automatically.
c) Provides interactive options, like rating, incrementing hits of resources/links, etc.

DBMAN SQL

a) Simple to use database management tool.
b) Totally dynamic views (no static web pages)
c) No intuitive organization of links/resources into categories.

If you are building a "directory of links", uh, use Links SQL.

Links SQL can be used with multiple databases, with a bit of hacking...DBMAN SQL, the same, with a bit of hacking.

If you are going to run multiple incidences or copies of Links SQL, then you will have to purchase additional licenses.

Hi,

Our general rule, is if you need any of:

- categorization of records (i.e. having visitors browse the database via a category structure)
- user added records with validation
- static html pages

then you want Links SQL. If not, then it's a little bit more of a toss up.

I'm all for Links SQL..I just need to make sure of what I want before I spend that much money. I'm sure you understand.

I'd prefer to run Links SQL for two of my three directories but can't afford to pay for two licenses so I guess I'll have to stick with Links 2.0 for the smaller two. :/
