Affiliate Codes as URL
Hi,

Is it possible to use affiliate program text link code in the url field for links and still have them work with jump.cgi? The problem is that most affiliate programs generally include a tracking 1x1 pixel image with supposed text links.

The code usually looks something like this:

<a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=Xvr4Hykw5Kw&offerid=15926.10000016&type=1&subid=0" >Click here for FREE!</a><IMG border=0 width=1 height=1 src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=Xvr4Hykw5Kw&bids=15926.10000016&type=1&subid=0" >

I know it doesn't work with other click counters, so I'm wondering how it would work with Links SQL and jump.cgi.

TIA,
ATKOgirl

I think the best option would be to create a new field, called 'small_image_count' (or whatever you want), and then set it to 'not null' (so you don't have to enter andything if you don't want), and then when adding a link put the actual URL in the URL box,and then the image URL in the image field. Then in your templates use a couple of ifs/ifnots to get it to only show the image if there is an image URL entered.

Hope that helps Tongue

You can also just stick the full HTML for the 1x1 image at the end of your description..

Andy is it possible to explain how this is done. Which file to modify etc. I am new to this and am looking for a way to add affiliate links to my site. I would also like to hide the affiliate code if possible.

IN Links, Database at the bottom of the page you can add fields. However, as suggested above, you can just add the tracking img tag to the description and it will not show, but will track.

Also, if you use the jump.cgi your affiliate links will be hidden from view and from search engine spiders.

What if from the above example, just http://click.linksynergy.com/...p;type=1&subid=0 is used as the hyperlink ? I am not talking about treacking......!! But can se spiders read this link ?

If you use the jump.cgi it will read the link as http://yourdomain.com/jump.cgi-linknumber, if you use the link without a jump it will read the link as is.
