[wanted] to remove spaces in listing?
In my subcategories - as with the demo of dmoz that gossamer puts up - there are spaces between categories. I have yet to figure out how to remove these even going through the files to no avail. if someone could explain

a) what I should edit
b) how <-- important :)

and list me a little edit. It would be wonderful since I am soooooooooo close!! :)

Category listings are controlled by the subcategory.html file...which you can use to edit the spacing. Look for <dl><dt> tags...delete them. And if you are using the CSS file, then you will need to edit the margin codes in the links.css file...although, I would personally delete the .css file and codes in your template files. There are major compatibility problems with CSS between web browsers.

I agree about the css files.

I find them poorly supported. And probably, they won't be supported until the 6.0 browsers come out.

One solution if you are dead set on .css is to use javascript to load a different file for each of the identified browsers.

So essentially do a global find-replace (err. deleted) of any reference to links.css in the html templates? Correct?

Also, are we all pretty certain that wasting <dl><dt> in subcategory.html will remove the spacings of categories? I want to have my categories tight since they look aweful (with a capital F), with spacing.

cheers to all here,

BTW...

I've hit a situation where if the link.css file doesn't exist, or netscape (or your webserver can't find it) Netscape essentially crashes -- it gives an error, and won't show any page, and redirects to the missing xxx.css file.

MSIE doesn't do that...

I just got bit by that, since I switched to MSIE waiting for the fixed NN. The pages worked fine in MSIE, until someone was forced to use NN, and the site essentially "crashed"

Not good for supporting multiple browsers....

BTW... this is NOT an endorsement for MSIE. In fact, I would be really happy if M$ was broken up into as many parts as they have lines of buggy code in Windows. MSIE has it's own problems -- including susceptability to attack, something that NN (not being tied to the Windows OS) doesn't have.

I hope the same, Billy should get more smaller and better companies, make more money and buy this %&(/"§)=Netscape.
So my daily work would be reduced about 1 or 2 hours.

The better way (for me) is to implement the whole css in the header.txt-file - with this you have not the problem with Netscape anymore.

BTW: Pugdog - i still wait for your offer :-(
and Pugdog - Do you know if the new version will come with the function build only when necessary? If so i MUST wait, else i will still use the old version.
