Set up the Verify Links so that you can skip over some urls. A prime example would be Yahoo!Groups and WebRings, which show up as an error. That way, the verification can be set up to skip over any url starting with http://groups.yahoo.com/.

Also, either set it up so Editors can verify links in the categories they edit or set it up so that the admin can save and upload a file with a list of broken links so the Editors can take care of them in their own categories.

The problem with allowing editors to verify the links, is that it consumes a _lot_ of system resources. You want to really control when that is done.
It would be much easier to simply add a function to the editors template that shows what links in that category reported a non-200 error code.
