I know i did this a million times before, but at the moment im still searching for an answer to this question, too. ;-(

Ok. The problem is that LSQL uses one variable for different things;
shurely you want to span your pages at the cat pages, but maybe you dont want to have an index page for the new links; the easiest way is to set

if ($CFG->{build_span_pages} ) { at nph-build.cgi around line 362 to
if (! $CFG->{build_span_pages} ) {

shurely you could add a new variable build_span_new_pages to the system ... sorry, too busy to explain it now. ;-(
