new columns in Links table

new columns in Links table
Hi,

another question regarding the columns Contact_Name and Contact_Email that were added to the Links table during the upgrade from 2.03 to 2.04:
What is their relation to the LinkOwner column and why is that one set to "admin" instead of the name the user submitted? So every link added will be owned by admin, is that correct?
What happens if I want to send a mass mail to all link owners? Will it send all mails to admin or to Contact_Email?
And what about the old links in the database - they don't have any info in the new created columns....

Ooo...

This is not a good idea...in terms of database design...haven't had a chance to look at the recent release, but if these columns/fields were added to the Links table, I would gander that is a bad choice...since it would create "referential integrity" problems...there better approach is to simply maintain the "UserID" as a foriegn key in the Links table.

The only other reason for re=adding those fields is to track who is the LINKOWNER versus owning the record as an Editor...which is one of the features that GT was addressing in this release (v.2.04). But that could relatively be easily addressed as an intersection table between Editors and Links tables...

But the official word will have to come fron Alex or another GT staff member...

Sorry I could not be more helpful if this reply "blows chunks"....

Hi,

Contact_Name and Contact_Email represent contact information for that link. This can be different the name/email of the person who "owns" the link.

Unless someone is logged in, the link will be owned by admin. If someone is logged in when they add a link, then it will be owned by that user.

Hope this helps,

Alex

Hi Alex,

how would I contact Contact_Email in case I want to notifiy him/her that their site is added or rejected?
When I validate links and choose to delete a submission that was entered by someone not logged in at that time, the person that gets the rejection mail is me...
So the notification emails are sent to the link owner, not Contact_Name. Is there a possibility to change this?

As I understand, via Admin->Email I can only send out mails to link owners. Or did I miss something here?

Hi,

The LinkOwner will get the added/rejected email only if a ContactEmail has not been entered, otherwise whoever is entered for ContactEmail gets the email. This is how it should work and how it works on my installation, anything else would be a bug. =)

No. If you go to Email->LinkOwners, then it will mail to the Contact_Email field if it's there, LinkOwner's email otherwise. If you goto Email->Users, it will mail to people in the Users table. If you go to Email->NewsLetter, it will mail people in the Users table with Newsletter => Yes.

Hope that helps,

Alex

Hi,

when a link is validated a notification mail is sent to ContactEmail, but when it is rejected the mail goes straight into my mailbox. So ContactEmail doesn't receive a note why his site wasn't added to the database.
Seems that it is a bug - at least in my installation, if it works ok in yours.

Alex,

Just for completeness, <G> What about a check-box to allow 'include LinkOwner' or "ignore Contact_Email" when sending a mailing. Just so we _can_ send to the link owner if we need to :)
