cookies
For some reason, I can't get my new links installation to set its cookies when a user logs in. I was running the Auth_WWWThreads plugin (modified a bit) and thought that may have been causing problems, but even after uninstalling that (and moving the new installation to a new domain, rather than a subdomain) it still won't set cookies (in IE or Netscape). It creates the session files correctly, btw.

Any ideas anyone?

Since you have moved domains, you need to update the domain setting in the cookie configurations.

I'm having a similar problem on one site. I can't get auth_w3t to log in the user into links, even though it auto creates the user ID and session properly.

Alex might have to look into this. I'm still trying, but no success.

Hi,

Check your server time. If it is set way off, the cookies may not work properly.

Let me know if this fixes it.

Cheers,

Alex:
My server is set to US EST and my local computer is set to GMT +10 (about 7 or 8 hours ahead). I tried changing the time on my computer to the same as my server, but still no luck.

Eliot:
cookie configuration? I changed the URLs under Setup > Paths and URLs . Is that what you meant?

Pugdog:
Auth_WWWThreads seemed to work fine for me, in that you could switch from Links to W3T fine, but it didn't set cookies unless you logged in through w3t. Iincidentally, my Auth_WWWThreads was modded to work with the php version, which has different cookie variable names. btw, i have since uninstalled the plugin, so it's not that causing problems.

Any further ideas? Thanks for your help so far.

Nope...I mean within the USER script. I don't believe that the COOKIE domain configuration is web-based. Look in the USER scripts (user.cgi).

Hi,

I think i've fixed this problem. If you go to user.cgi and log in, does it work fine from there? (Whereas is you go to add.cgi and get redirected to the login screen it doesn't work).

If this is the case, it will be fixed on monday.

Cheers,

Alex

Hi pugdog,

Are you using the PHP version? ethan just mentioned it uses different names for the cookies (ugh), so I would have to change it to get it to work.

If you are using the perl version, does it work if you go to user.cgi and then login (i.e. not from a redirect).

Cheers,

Alex

Alex,

I'm using the Perl version, but 5.15 (not 12).

It sounds like this might be the problem, since it is from the re-direct screen I'm having problems.

I'll check later and verify.

Alex,
It doesn't work for me either way (from a redirect or from user.cgi).

Also, to get the PHP version of W3t working with Auth_WWWThreads, I had to use the w3tvars.pm from one of my old perl installations, because of course there is no such file with the PHP version.. I think the equivalent PHP file is config.inc.php
