I have given an editor these permissions in one category:

Links: Add Delete Modify Move Copy Validate
Category: Add Related

What I would expect her to be able to do is use the category browser
(in that category only) to manage links, and add sub-categories.

In practice, after logging in and clicking on 'Editors', she gets this message:
"Sorry, but only category editors are allowed."

This happens in the category for which she has permissions. The 'Add a Resource' and 'Modify a Resource' URLs work OK.

So, if an editor who has permission to edit in a category is not a category editor, who is?

That should be a category editor. Are you using cookies for authentication, and if so, do they have cookies enabled?

If you are using URL based authentication, make sure the link to browser.cgi contains the session.
