I am looking to have a specific layout for the categories in the homepage and the more practical way is to have the categories and specific subcategories hardcoded (i dont use the links number or new tags for the categories displayed in the homepage so it's ok). What tag should I use so the category links work both in built pages and with page.cgi?

I thought you wanted to hardcode the links?....So you don't need a tag.

Whatever you add to the home page template will show on the normal html page and with page.cgi.

However, I dont understand how it works: I added a category link to the category sub-directory and when the page is dynamic the link is handled by page.cgi

Right...that is what page.cgi does...
