Setup > Misc > Bans - work in static mode?
Hi,

I've just noticed a load of spam from a particular IP address and I've added it to the 'Bans' IP list - is this list checked against the referring IP when a site suggestion is made through add.cgi?

All the best
Shaun

I'm still getting spam submissions from this IP address so I guess the 'bans' field isn't checked in static mode?

I think I'll have to dig out my old 1.13 mod and try to apply it to 2.1.1 Smile

Re: [qango] Ban IP Addresses from submitting a site In reply to
I've managed to put my mod for banning IP addresses into 2.1.1 and it works great if the user visits the site and tries to submit through the form itself.

However, I'm still getting spammed by a specific IP address and the 'check' I've added isn't catching it for some reason.

Anyone have a foolproof IP specific anti-spam mod?

Could I ban them from my server completely?

Any ideas would be appreciated Smile

All the best
Shaun

Qango,

You can use your .htaccess file to ban users from accessing your web site. Works great for me, shut down two major SPAM sources and also keeps a few negative users from accessing my site.

I'd suggest going to the apache.org web site and searching for .htaccess. Also, htaccess has been discussed quite a few times in this forum.
