Is it a good idea to have mySQL on a separate server?
I'm very close to signing up with a webhost that offers the following:

MySQL (hosted on a separate dedicated database server)

mSQL v.2.04

It depends really on traffic and usage. If the web server doesn't have a high amount of traffic then I don't think you'll lose much performance from having mysql on the same server, whereas if your server has a high level of traffic and also mysql is used frequently then it is better to seperate them out to maximise performance.

A lot of hosts still have mysql and apache on the same server.
