The New directory contains all the files genrated by Links SQL for the What's New display. Could it be possible that on the same template,

A Monthly Link is also displayed (only if there are additions during that month) which only displays the additions in the given month. The static files are already there in the New directory.

There however could be problems if there have been template changes :/
