Links SQL on Cobalt Raq 3?
Just wondering if anyone has tried running Links SQL on a Cobalt Raq 3 server? Has anyone heard any good things about Cobalts? I noticed that they just got acquired by Sun Microsystems, which has peaked my interest.

Hi there,

There are threads in the forums which relate to running Links on Cobalt RAQ, but it's not advised. The Cobalt RAQ isnt meant as a dedicated server for this type of application, and with my own experience with them in the past. I wouldnt touch one again, unless I was just into hosting virtual sites for the money. The support that you have to give for the problems they create are unbeleivable.

If you wanted to host a large site running Links SQL, i would suggest a dedicated server somewhere running at leat a P111 600 with min of 256MB ram 1GB if you can afford it. It will be well worth it in the long run.

If your in the UK try http://www.hotchilli.com i have a few dedicated servers with them.

I was running links-sql on a RaQ2 and it was definitely not up to handling it and it did have weird problems. We are currently running on a RaQ4 with no problems. We have about 3800 categories and 37000 links. The Raq4 has a package for installing Mysql (complete install of everthing required takes about 2 minutes elapsed time). The Raq4 4 also comes with PHP, ASP and Mod_perl installed. You might want to check out the RaQ4.
