FAQ Changes/Help needed
Folks,

What I need from people here is an effort to comb the forums and/or your own memories, to find things like:

Q: how do I change the email message users receive when I validate/decline
their link addition to my database?

A: Edit email-add, email-mod, email-del and email-validate in the templates directory.

(this is an actual recent thread)

Now is a great time to post the Q&A version of things you are figuring out as you are developing your site or converting to the new version.

I am making a mod to the FAQ that will allow an area to use different templates, and essentially turn that sub-category into an FAQ where links could be put close together, and organized like a traditional FAQ.

Thanks,

I know that your FAQ site is broken up into different categories for LINKS SQL v.1.X and v.2.0 and this may be a dumb question...but...

Would you prefer us to concentrate on one version over another?

Well, the 1.1x version has really been superceeded. I don't think there are going to be any fresh installs of that version, and most sites will upgrade (even yours!)

It's probably better to concentrate on the current release.

There isn't much "new" going on in the 1.1x area now any more. Most recent questions have been repeats, or really better answered by "Upgrade to the 2.0 version" :)

With the blessings of Rick from WCSoft, I have installed w3t on the FAQ site, and will be integrating it into the general gestalt of support. I hope to run both the php and perl versions.

Right now there is only one forum, but I'll add more, including an area to support my plug-ins, and reduce the traffic/clutter here. I'll still answer both places, but in general, no need to clutter this with non-general issues, since the alpha/beta development cycle of the image gallery/photo site plugin will be a long, and drawn out one.

Also, there will be an area to post general stuff, and a place to comment on the FAQ. Stuff that really doesn't need to be in here (again, it will lower the noise).

Anyone who is concerned.... I'll still post and answer the general questions
here, and I'm still going to be bugging Alex (Although Paul is doing a great
job in my stead!!). I just want to increase the quality of support and information, without increasing the clutter.

I'm trying to redesign the FAQ to allow logos, as I said before, both to demo the upload/image mod but also to encourage people to contribute!

NOTE 1: I'm resisting adding bug reports on the 2.0 version yet, since they are being fixed quickly, and are still at the top of this forum. (BUG: does a good deal to flag those messages!).

NOTE 2: Please point out any threads you think should be included, AND any Q&A how-to you would have liked to have when you were pulling out your hair!

NOTE 3: You Vbulletin fans out there, if you want to see if I can add that to the roster, I'd need to get a _server_ not _domain_ license to do it. If you feel it's worth while, maybe see what you can do. Once the new version comes out, I would definitely consider it, but I think for near term, w3t will almost certainly be the forum of choice -- it has both perl and php versions, so integration will work for both versions pretty likely, and give people a choice in front ends (perl or php).

May be...Links SQL v.1.13 really serves my purposes for the time being...but someday, I will probably get sick of editing the nuts and bolts of the program and will be looking for an easier management process...but for now, I am quite satisified...but who knows...may be, like next winter, may be.

UPDATE:: Check out the mods by pugdog area, the upload logo works :) Need to make it as per the notes in the PlugIns area... but thought I'd let people know.

Now if you want to submit a link, you can attach a small -- right now 140x70 or so logo. Don't try to push it, I change the limits all the time, and to be safe stay in that range!

I may have the the "User-Logo" portion working by tonight, and the way you'll know, is my furry face will be all over the site :)O

Kewl! :)
