I know next to nothing about Wordpress or Blogging in general. I apologize if this is a dumb question...

Can Wordpress be used inside of Links templates, or would you need have to run WP completely separate from your templates?

You would have to run it seperatly I'm afraid (i.e a "basic" template made for Wordpress, that just "looks" similar to your GLinks design, but without all the <%tag%> stuff in, as that isn't supported by WordPress :)

This would be possible through the PageBuilder Plugin, if what you would like to achieve is incorporate some content which could be updated regularly at each page rebuild.

I believe you should be able to do this via:

1. Using Andy's Wordpress Plugin
2. Combination of php include or javascript (even shtml if you are using static mode)

In addition, if I am not wrong, wordpress has good rss feeds, and if you just want to display one of those on GLinks interface, it might be as simple as pasting a javascript.
