When adding a URL to the site you just type in the url in the add box. The program then goes to the page and gets all the meta information and prefills the add form with this information. This can be very useful to get the title, description, meta tags for the page and makes adding hundreds of links easer. Of course meta tags are not always there/relevant but it helps in the times when they are and are representive of the site.
