if he adds the new field via mysql man, then how will the new field get added into the links datbase schema? doesn't it need to be added through the links >> properties interface?

Yes, it's much better to add new fields via the property editor in the Links SQL admin area.

If you add via MySQLman, you will need to resync the database as I described in a previous message.
