Is there any way I can ask our site visitors to subscribe to the newsletters based on the sub-categories instead of the parent categories?

The parent categories on our site are vast and broad but the sub-categories are more defined and will benefit our visitors, is there any files I can edit to make it change from parent to sub-categories instead
