The vBulletin plugin allows you to use the member database from vBulletin so that users do not have to sign up for a second account to edit/add links to Links SQL. A very handy thing, but will it cause problems for your plugin ?

I would not think it would be a problem as an editor is assigned from the Links SQL side and not the VB side. And all editor controls are through the Links SQL side.

I may be wrong though.

That is a real shame as I was hoping to use this plugin :( Oh well I feared that would be the answer.

I cannot see how it would clash, but I also cannot say I understand the integration of vBullitien into Links, other than sharing the user database.

If the users are available through the normal links tables, in the normal fashion i.e. lsql_users then Editor Monitor would be indifferent as to where the user names are coming from.

Are you looking for an editor monitor or a usre monitor though?

Can he assign an editor?

If he can then it should work as this is done on the Links SQL side of things.

Yes... an editor for his links categories too (just to clarify). Not a moderator/editor for vBulletien.

I am considering adding a full link deletion log to Editor Monitor, with autopurging of the log (this would be depend on interest, and actual time I get to add it in).

The log would record:

Username/EditorName | Date/Time | LinkID | LinkURL | From Category ID |

Where can we see a complete feature list for Editor Monitor?

Hi,

I have not actually made any single list, although this is something I have been wanting to do, between writing plugins.

All of the features are covered throught the 4 or so threads that Editor Monitor spans over in this forum. I will give a VERY brief summary though:

• Dynamically created editor profile pages which are template based
• Who's on line... see which of your editors and users area currently on-line
• Editor Tracking... track the additions, deletions, modification and validations for links and categories made be each editor, including the last three logins date/times
• Editor Reward system - there are screenshots in one of the threads
• Editor Sign-Up system - phase two has been implemented. Editor is present a template based signup form, the information is stored in a pedning table and a template based email is automatically sent to you and the editor applicant

I am sure there is more, but that is what I can think of off the top of my head. Feel free to ask anyone in these threads of their opinions of the plug-in, and they might even show you it in use on their websites. You can also look at my website (which has editors). See signature block 'Web:'.

Let me know if you have any more questions... and hopefully (soon) I will be able to create full feature lists for all of my plug-ins.

OK. Would the plugin help us overcome the following difficulty ... ?

Right now the LSQL user/editor system is logically flawed. For example:
* All editors have to be users first -- we cannot sign up an editor unless we first create a user for that person.
* We cannot re-assign editor permissions -- we have to delete the editor, then create a new editor with the new permissions.

Our DMOZ-like wishlist is that ...
* Users and editors should be completely separate.
* Users should, as present, have permissions to modify their own links. To edit other links or categories, they should apply to become editors (ideally, but not necessarily, with the same login).
* Admin should be able to add, modify and remove editor permissions without impacting on user permissions (and vice-versa).
* When in browse mode, editors should be able to search within their own categories.

Basically, we would really like a DMOZ system, with the option of allowing users to manage their own sites.

Is this (or anything like it) on your agenda?

Let me try to address your questions:



No. I am not sure how the system would know about a user, or in fact let them login if they were not a registered user.



This may be a questions for GT rather than a plug-in, as this is to do with the internals of LINKS SQL and not something I would image a plug-in could change. The plugin system is still limited by what the core engine allows it to do (mostly). I understand the problem though, as I too suffer a little as a result of this.

This is also about seperating having an exclusive database set where editors are not intersecting the user database. Links SQL currently does not support this with its editor system, and I don't see that a plug-in could change this either. You may want to pose some of these questions to GT in another thread.



I would be interested to know how you acheive this with the current version of Links SQL myself. Certainly without making users and editors a mutually exclusive database set, a combination of Links SQL Editor Monitor and perhaps User Monitor in (for extended user abilities) sometime in the future might be able to meet your needs.
