Plug-ins... self deleting???

Plug-ins... self deleting???
Whilst intalling or uninstalling one of my plug-ins, as per the normal fashion... I noticed that all of my other plug-ins have disappeared from the installed plug-ins list!! Not only that, but they have uninstalled, and their associated functions are gone.

Even weirder, is that the plug-in tar files are all still correctly in the admin\plugins\INSTALLED !

Any ideas how this could happen?Crazy

It looks like the tables created by these plugins are still intact... weird.... even Mel's yahoo subcats uninstalled itself! What is going on?

You must be writing very weird plugins these days... Wink

No, seriously, how exactly does this happen? If you want to send me the weirdo plugin, I can test on my testing installation.

Now the plugin manager won't let me install plugins from the LSQL download area... it appears to let me grab them, but it wont show up in the uninstalled list!

My site is effectively downUnsure

It is not particular plug-in... just the normal ones.... I am not even sure that is was the action of installing the plug-in which caused this.

Its like something has become corrupt in the plug-in system. (or on my server)

EDIT: I just tried intalling RemoteCount which was one of the pllugins which was wiped... and it says it already exists (when it does not appear in the install list, nor does it work), yet it is in the /plugins/installed directory

Plugin Exists!

RemoteCount plugin already exists. Do you want to overwrite version (Can't load installed: There is no plugin named: RemoteCount in the config file.) with 2.0.5:

I wonder if the plugin.cfg file becoming corrupt for some reason would cause this?

Sure enough, the plugin.cfg had reset itself :-(

Poop! How would it do this I wonder? I notice its permissions were chagned to 666, and not 644 like the other files too.Crazy

Edit: I am re-installing all the local plug-ins.. but Lilnks just won't add plugins from remote locations to the un-installed list... wierd.... I may have to delete this directories and start again.

Hi,

You seemed to figure out what I was bout to tell you. check plugin.cfg, and keep a backup ;)

You need to also just do a chmod -R 777 Plugins as root, to get all the permissions to where the server can deal with them, and where you can deal with them.

Hi pugdog.

Thanks.

You are right, I will be keeping a back up of plug-in cfg from now on. So would I be right in assuming you have expereince similar problems?

I haven't experienced the problem as you describe it, but i muck with the plugin.cfg so much <G> I keep a copy around to roll it back... the worst that happens is you move any plugin not listed in the plugin.cfg back from the Installed to Uninstalled directory and just re-install it. Ifyou have a back up copy, you can just cut/paste :)

Yes, as you explained... it turned out to be not that difficult to recover from, and it won't be as bad now that I have a copy of theh cfg file. At times I have 10+ plug-ins installed when I am writing, who knows what effect this may have on the system.

I am still purplexed as to the actual cause of this instance however.
